It's an Anniversary
Mar. 1st, 2004 05:43 pmI don't know about other gay men in relationships but I'm always stumped and amused by the question "how long have you guys been together?". Is it the day we met, or the day after, when I knew that this man was incredibly special? Is it the morning the following January when he came down for the weekend and I absolutely knew that I was in love with him? When we started to talk about him moving in? When we decided to chuck the waiting period and just do it? When he moved in?
I usually respond with "We met ...... and I knew". Because I did.
Appropriate to this current climate of wedding rights, today is the official anniversary of us considering ourselves domestic partners, six months after which he became eligible for DP benefits through my employer.
I guess it's not that big a deal - he's off writing a musical on the A train, I'm not sure of all the details but it seems that a group gets together and writes several short musicals in the time it takes to ride the entire run of the A train, and then they present them starting the next night for a couple of days.
I like anniversaries because it makes remember how profoundly my life has changed, for the better.
