I was reminded of another fairly unique adventure: in 1974 I went to the 'Hollywood Street Revival and Trash Dance' - aka "The Death of Glitter" and saw Iggy Pop backed up by Fred Sonic Smith; The New York Dolls; and Zolar X.

I was wearing a blond wig that made me look like Tippi Hedren, a shirt with steaks and knives printed on it, and 7-inch platforms.

Busy busy busy. Need to focus more on fewer things. Working on a posting about joy.

I've been so digital-headed for a while with photography that I started missing my old crap cameras. So I took a perfectly nice color photo from Palm Springs and mussed it about so it looked like something out a Diana with a weird lens abberation:

Most of my experience with usenet is that it doesn't have an level field of things it's good at - some things work exceedingly well in that space (ex. photography knowledge exchange) and other things not well at all. When I was on chemo last year I found a newsgroup from people going through what I was and it was incredibly supportive and useful. Probably most importantly it was a source of knowledge through experience about what sorts of side effects might be treated with what methods, because this stuff was incredibly idiosyncratic, like bizarro world weird. So to find a set of people who had a set of terminology to talk about what other people couldn't even comprehend was really good.

There was another aspect of it that I was reminded of while watching Brenda's reaction to a sexual compulsives meeting last night on 6ftU. People in the group I was in would give each other - for the most part strangers - pep talks when they got too down or too weirded out. A lot of "you know you can do this, you know this is important to you, you can make it through" kind of stuff. I never knew that it actually worked, I thought it was just sort of stupid, but it really does help.

I have just had my level of cynicism ratcheted down one stop.
