Silkscreen class? Or not?
Jan. 31st, 2006 12:25 pmWhen I was in college I did a couple of silkscreens - photo transfers from my own photos - and I'm pretty clear on how they work. I was thinking of taking a class at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan but they started last week and the only one that's open is Friday nights from 7-10pm. It's also $615 and runs through late April.
What I'm really signing up for is access to their equipment - "Large-scale digital output is available." - but if that means that I won't be able to work or finish things I've started when the class is over then it's just frustrating. I could take that money and put it into a reusable setup in my home that doesn't have an end date.
There is the possiblity that I might learn something but my experience with these classes is that unless they are an overview, like the "alternative printing methods" I took a few years ago, then it's mostly just renting studio time.
And there's that Friday night thing which means we can't go away for the weekend.
I'm torn.
