What Ann Coulter is doing

Her personal attacks on the 9/11 widows who have become political activists are just one more blow to the idea that knowledge and experience count for something and give a speaker authority. She complains that "liberals" put up unassailable victims as their speakers - well, duh. The 9/11 widows and the mothers of soldiers who have been killed or maimed in Iraq have a first-hand experience of the consequences of the Bush administration's actions. Unlike Coulter and her ilk who have merely become richer, these people know that the cost of these misadventures has been very, very high. So they need to be shut up.
The current right-wing profiteers know that knowledge and experience will never be on their side. They know that they have to destroy the idea that opinions are less valuable than knowledge since all they have is opinions.
That's what makes her non-dismissable as just a crank.
