Slow down, speed up
Jul. 5th, 2007 09:18 amI talked to my mother in Orange County last night and got the impression that it would be helpful for me to come out and help out for a week or two. She's having a bit of trouble getting around and her sister - the 90-year-old who until very recently was unstoppable - fell and landed on her butt and now her legs are weak and she's having to get around on a walker. My mother HATES driving to LA so I imagine we're going to go up and see her a few times (she's in Burbank behind the Warner's lot, near where N. Pass merges with Olive.)
Since all these issues are happening now I cashed in some AA frequent flier miles and am going out next Wednesday, scheduled to return the 31st. Ernie and I were going to do a trip out there anyway but not until August so we're going to try to see if we can put something together for after I've been there 1.5-2 weeks. If not I'll come back after 2 weeks and we'll use other miles/vouchers for an August trip.
I'm freaking a bit though because even though everything financially is in place, I don't know if something might not crop up while I'm gone. I have time to organize everything into Ernie-accessible piles but I was just getting to the point of _not_ having heavy to-do lists, and _not_ feeling rushed. There was going to be time for bike rides and photography and working out and meandering through interior house projects (tiling and trim) that have been undone for far too long.
And I saw this morning that we've got tomatoes that are starting to turn red. We will have them all season, but the first ones..... Hopefully at least one will ripen for a caprese salad before I leave.
There is a lot going on before I leave - today it's out to LI for Ernie's uncle's wake, then very early tomorrow (Friday) we're going out to Hillside campground for one of their Bears weekends.
I shouldn't worry, everything will fall into place and the trip will be not difficult and I'll have time to see some friends and go bodysurfing in the mornings or afternoons a few times and get to the gym regularly. But it will be weird to not be with Ernie for that long.
