The Hissing of Summer Lawns
Oct. 31st, 2007 07:36 amA constant in my life has been this recording that came out when I was 19. I had my first obsessive crush on a guy and sat in my roommate's room (she was moving back in with her parents) smoking cigarettes and waiting for hours for the phone to ring, listening to this record over and over and over. I listened to it driving to and from LA to see the original _Solaris_ that left me wondering what beastly planet was making my life the horror that it was and what it was that I wanted so badly that I was getting it in the shape of emotional deformity and fearsome things that could tear through whatever walls I tried to build against them.
Older and wiser but the damage sometimes turns into sound. And we forget things not because they're unimportant, but because we just forget.
I still think it's one of her best, and one of her best makes it one of _the_ best. It's a desert island recording for me. I'll probably listen to it when I'm dying.
