New monitor
Apr. 18th, 2008 03:48 pmMy old Sony monitor has a coating on the screen that's yellowed and cracked. I scrubbed some of it off but it's just nasty. I went onto craigslist and found someone in the city, a studio of some sort, giving away two older but in perfect condition 21" Mitsubishi VGA monitors.
I hooked on of them up - they're BIG, and they have slightly convex screens (remember those?) But they're gorgeous 1600x1200 (I'm running at 1400 x 1050 and it's just right.) And right now is NOT a good time for affordable LCDs for photo editing, and CRTs are just not really made any more. So I got lucky.
And I saw Arianna Huffington waiting for a car.
I'm going to swap out Ernie's desktop monitor - an LCD - for my second monitor so I can have one screen for the image and the other for the PS tools, and still not have my desk collapse. If someone has a second LCD in decent condition that they want to trade for a 21" CRT, let me know.

Photo editing monitor

Since our world involves so much post-processing where accurate color is important, I want to share that I found - for free, on Craigslist - two 21" CRTs (Mitsubishi Diamond Pro). VGA cable into the Mac and voila, sharp clear luscious color. I've got a reasonably good Samsung LCD next to it that is bright and happy but no good for photo work, at least not compare to this CRT. But it's good for photoshop pallettes and chat windows. I highly recommend this strategy.
Getting the color right. It's what we do.
