Amy Adams, new favorite
Sep. 21st, 2008 10:34 amLast night we saw Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day. It is a totally sweet and delightful film, excellent in all respects - writing, direction, and acting.
We saw Enchanted a while ago and while the film itself wasn't great, Amy Adams in the lead was magical. So last night we were watching Miss Pettigrew and there she was again, just as loveable, just as magical, but with real feeling and pathos.
I looked her up and saw that she had been in Junebug:
And this scene from Enchanted - she so totally gets it and sells it that it works.
And here, in Miss Pettigrew:
This is a wonderful scene - there's a lot of context before that leads up to this, but you can get the idea from seeing the emotions that run through her:
Frances McDormand is also incredibly good, and Ciaran Hind... after Persuasion, he can do anything he wants and I'll melt.
I'd recommend highly setting aside some time for it.
