Nikon D200 DSLR for $600
Apr. 14th, 2009 02:21 pmAs Nikon introduces the D500, their non-serious-photographer SLR with video and live view, the prices on the D200 have come way down. The 200 was "replaced" last year with the D300 (lowest price $1600) which has a lot of enhancements, most noticeably in high-ISO performance - at the expense, some people say, of natural skintones along with natural vivid colors in landscapes that the D200 has.
It also allows you to use the vast majority if lenses that Nikon has made because it has the autofocus motor in the body - which lets you use sharp, cheap, fast lenses like the 50mm f1.8.
I think if someone wanted to upgrade from a D40 or D60 to a camera that takes great images and opens up the world of great, cheap, glass, this is a steal. I plan on keeping mine for until the FX cameras become affordable and all the lenses I'm buying now will work on either format.
There's also the D90 - $250 more, what it loses slightly in low-ISO performance it gains in high-ISO. The way I shoot, though, if it's low-light I want a pocketable camera anyway and won't take the Nikon.
