Finishing the kitchen
Dec. 5th, 2009 12:02 pmSome of you here know our history over the last few years, things got really fucked up, then a little over two years ago we made some changes and have been working to get things back on track. As anyone who tries to make big changes in their life knows, it takes _time_ and _repetition_ and it goes in fits and starts.
One of the many unfinished things was the kitchen. We had no backsplash, and no trim around the sink window (unless you call blue duct tape "trim". ) So we went out to a tile store in NJ (Artistic Tile, their NYC showroom is orgasmic if you like that sort of thing) and worked with Sophia who was friendly, helpful, and the first person who really had no problem saying "hmmm, that won't work, what about...." as we were figuring out what to do.
The little subway tiles are a greyish green with some variation between tiles, and they have a surface iridescence
that only shows up in daylight. Behind the cooktop is a grey slate with lots of gold in it, it has lots of depth but is actually honed flat. The purple tiles we mixed in have a silver foil backing to pick up the light.
