Lady Gaga / Beyonce
Mar. 12th, 2010 01:06 pmI suppose I should just say that I'm glad Lady Gaga exists - we haven't had a good pop spectacle in a long time. This new video with her and Beyonce is loud and fun.
I hope that Gaga's team produces more Beyonce videos. This is the most fun I've ever seen her be.
That said, there is something about LG's music I find disappointing. Some of her songs have catchy melodies (Poker Face, etc.) but the lyrics are just not anything special. Not that pop lyrics have to be perfect or complex but they should be as catchy as the music, and hers just aren't.
I also don't get any kind of sexy vibe from her. She's like the nerdy smart talented girl who got skinny and wears trashy clothes.
People compare her to Madonna but I don't think that's reasonable - Madonna always took herself and her music seriously. Even when it was fun and camp, it never felt like a joke.
Like Cherish, Vogue, Bedtime Story, Express Yourself and his, where she doing extreme dancing, costumes, and doing a lot of goofy stuff. You still get the feeling that she's likely fucked at least one of her backup dancers.
For all the flesh in LG's videos, there doesn't feel like there's an ounce of sexual heat. I think it's that disconnection that bothers me about what she does.
