Feb. 7th, 2005 07:56 pmA good friend of mine is in an a capella group in NYC by the name of Mystery Date. They have some history as Sons & Lovers, or something like that. People I know who follow these things know who they are. I love their performances, they have a great sense of humor and pretty astounding voices.
As I mentioned in an earlier post they needed new pics and we all thought it would be fun for me and for them to have a go at it. They know me and it was chance to get something that didn't cost a lot of money and was actually fun to do.
I got to my friend's house (which used to be my house before he bought it from us) and we set up the lights and I played with exposures and backdrops. Ended up using several backdrops (this one was a dark green sheet stapled to wall) with a 30x40 softbox on an 800 watt remotely trigged strobe (triggered by an on-camera strobe set to 1/64 power so it didn't show up in the picture.)
I was pretty nervous at first but we got into it pretty quickly. I had a laptop there that after we shot with a specific configuration we could check it out on the larger screen. I think that helped a lot, they had an idea of what it looked like and could say what they liked and didn't like.
We're all still sorting through the full set for what they want for different purposes, need b&w for, etc. Of course, the shots I like the best are probably not appropriate for the festivals and shows they do but I just loved this one - it's uncropped but I like that I didn't do much to it:

Anyone in the NYC/NNJ area need new pics?
