Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage
Jan. 13th, 2008 09:40 amI'd never seen this and have it on Netflix but it's been sitting in a drawer since Ernie doesn't really like this sort of thing (no monsters, no explosions, and with subtitles.)
I guess it depends on how you define monsters and explosions. I've seen the first two episodes (I'm watching the TV version, six episodes of an hour each) and so far it's pretty amazing.
The dialogue is right on the border of being over-the-top and too obvious but it's not so it's great drama. When it gets close, though, I'm reminded of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. I wonder if Ingmar would have approved.
