The Great Buck Howard
Aug. 13th, 2009 03:32 pmOn the plane ride out I watched _Confessions of a Shopaholic_. A sweet film, Isla Fisher was sweet and funny. A bunch of big names, a bit stereotypical in the smaller parts and I am always happy to see Joan Cusack.
On the way back was _The Great Buck Howard_ with John Malkovich and Colin Hanks (with a few scenes of the actual Tom Hanks playing his father.) I am not sure about Colin. He always seems so unhappy. Malkovich was good but you're always aware (in everything he's done) that he's acting, to me just the opposite of, say, Meryl Streep where you almost never are. It was an excellent plane film, and made me tear up at the end.
I would recommend watching it, though, for the scenes with Emily Blunt. Another british actor who can do an impeccable american accent, I last saw her in _The Devil Wears Prada_.

I didn't realize it was her at all until I looked it up, and I remember thinking while watching it if this was how she was in real life or if she was a good enough actress to create such a great character. It appears to be the latter.
She was wonderful.
